4 Per Gun
Vault POIs
The Fortnite weapon mod system allows you to customize your guns with four distinct attachment slots: scope, magazine, underbarrel grip, and barrel attachment. Each weapon can hold one attachment per slot, and the available options vary depending on the weapon type. You access the modding interface by finding a Mod Bench, which are located at vault POIs scattered across the map, typically inside named locations with underground bunkers or vault rooms.
Modding your weapons costs gold bars, with prices ranging from 25 bars for common attachments to 75 bars for rare ones. You can also pick up pre-modded weapons from eliminated opponents or floor loot, though these often come with suboptimal attachment combinations. The key to effective modding is arriving at a Mod Bench with enough gold bars to fully customize your loadout and knowing exactly which attachments work best for your preferred playstyle and the current game situation.
The Red Eye sight offers a 1.15x magnification with a clean reticle, making it the best choice for close-to-mid range engagements where target acquisition speed matters most. Its minimal zoom keeps your field of view wide while still providing a clear aiming point. The Holo sight provides 1.3x magnification with a slightly more detailed reticle, offering the best balance for general-purpose use across all engagement ranges. It is the most versatile optic and a safe choice for any weapon.
For long-range specialists, the Sniper scope delivers 4x magnification that transforms any scoped weapon into a long-range threat. However, the glare from sniper scopes can give away your position to observant opponents. The thermal scope is a niche but powerful option that highlights enemy heat signatures through smoke, bushes, and low-light areas, though its limited field of view makes it less effective in close-quarters combat.
The Drum magazine increases your weapon's ammunition capacity at the cost of slower reload speed. This trade-off is beneficial on weapons that already have slow reload times or on ARs where extended firing pressure matters more than quick reloads. The Speed magazine trades capacity for dramatically faster reload times, allowing you to get back into the fight quickly after emptying a magazine. This is particularly valuable on shotguns and SMGs where downtime between reloads can mean the difference between life and death.
For ARs, the Drum magazine is generally preferred because the extra bullets allow you to pressure multiple opponents without reloading. For shotguns, the Speed magazine is almost always better because the faster reload lets you stay in the fight during critical close-range moments. SMGs benefit most from the Drum magazine to maximize spray potential, while snipers do not benefit significantly from either option — stick with the standard magazine and invest your gold elsewhere.
The Suppressor reduces your weapon's audible range and eliminates muzzle flash, making it harder for opponents to pinpoint your location. This is particularly valuable for ARs and SMGs used in stealthy or third-party situations. The Muzzle Brake reduces vertical recoil, improving your sustained accuracy during long sprays. This attachment is essential for full-auto weapons where maintaining accuracy over multiple shots is critical.
For underbarrel grips, the Angled Foregrip provides the best vertical recoil control for most weapons, making it the default choice for AR users who spray at medium range. The Laser Sight improves hip-fire accuracy, which can be situationally useful for shotguns and SMGs when building and editing at close range. The Vertical Foregrip offers horizontal recoil reduction that can be valuable on specific weapons with unusual recoil patterns.
Different weapon types benefit from different mod configurations. For the Striker AR, equip a Red Eye sight for clean target acquisition, a Drum magazine for extended spray pressure, an Angled Foregrip for vertical recoil control, and a Muzzle Brake for maximum accuracy during sustained fire. The Fortnite Fandom Wiki lists community-tested mod loadouts for every weapon in the game. According to Wikipedia's Fortnite coverage, Chapter 6 introduced significant changes to the mod system that shifted the meta toward specific attachments. For the Frenzy Auto shotgun, a Holo sight balances speed and precision, while a Speed magazine ensures you stay in the fight during close-range exchanges. The Laser Sight tightens hip-fire spread, and the Suppressor keeps your position concealed after opening shots. SMGs benefit most from the Drum magazine combined with a Suppressor for stealthy build pressure.
For ARs: Red Eye scope + Drum Mag + Angled Foregrip + Muzzle Brake is the gold standard. You'll beam enemies at 50-100m with almost zero recoil.
Knowing where to find Mod Benches and when to use them is essential for maximising your loadout potential. Mod Benches are located at vault POIs, typically in underground bunkers at named locations. Arrive with at least 200 gold bars to fully mod two weapons — scopes cost 25-50 gold while the more impactful barrel and grip mods cost 50-75 each. Prioritise modding your shotgun and AR first, as these are the weapons you will use most frequently in combat. If you find a pre-modded weapon from an eliminated opponent, check its attachments before replacing them — sometimes the previous owner already invested in high-quality mods. In competitive modes, plan your drop to land near a Mod Bench location, loot quickly, and rotate to mod before the first circle closes.
